Boratium Wars is a fast paced arcade shooter based in the outer fringes of the solar system in the unexplored asteroid ring known as the "Constantus Ring".

In 2210, an asteroid passing near earth, suddenly and inexplicably entered Earth's orbit. The ensuing exploration of it's surface yielded an unknown element known as "Boratium". Weight savings, strength, and the amplified efficiency per volume of other basic elements were but some of its outstanding properties and benefits. All on earth wanted and eventually became reliant upon this new resource. Against the backdrop of the greedy Explora-Incorpus Inc. (EP), explorers and miners now toss and toil in the Constantus Ring, mining and fighting off the efforts of EP to gain control over Boratium trade.

Now in 2270, you as a "Ringer" and member of "The United Miners Union" must collect Boratium to assist the Union, using your earnings to upgrade your ships, and stave off the impending threats of scavengers, pirates, opposition miners, EP, and other threats in space.

Delamite

I
Magnetic Gas Cloud

The Magnet Gas Cloud is more experimental than effective, but it gave rise to the science behind vacuum mining. Most objects are effected, closer objects are drawn into its radius. Use it to round up any objects and collect them before the cloud expires. Warning: Deadly objects in the cloud are still deadly.

II
Delamite Gas Cloud

Delamite based, this gas cloud is a successor to its magnetic forefather. Delamite amplifies the magnetic pull of ferromagnetic objects. Boratium itself is magnetic thus increasing the pull around its radius. Greater in size than its previous counter part, the Delamite Gas Cloud affects most objects and pulls them into its radius. Warning: Deadly objects in the cloud are still deadly.

III
Extended Delamite Gas Cloud

The largest of the Delamite family, this utility is a sight to behold with its magnificent size and pull. Affects most objects and pulls them into its radius. Warning: Deadly objects in the cloud are still deadly.

Vortex

I
Vortex Gas Cloud

Utilizing a mixture of boratium and highly excited ions, this gas cloud incinerates more traditional metals and materials, but Boratium itself is not affected creating an ideal mining tool. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

II
Extended Vortex Gas Cloud

The extended vortex gas cloud is the "more" approach to Vortex cloud mining. Laced with more energy, this gas cloud is simply bigger and better than its predecessor. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

Bortak

I
Bortak Pulse

Ringers got the bright idea to electrically charge Boratium and the end results became an Ion pulse which could distort gravity over a given area.

II
Bortake Shockwave

The powerhouse successor to the Bortak Pulse, the shock wave simply hits harder and slows longer.

Shield

I
Ion Hull Shield

After the development of the Bortak shock wave, Ringers wondered if ion pulses couldn't be used defensively to stop projectiles and objects. The end result was the Ion Hull Shield, a 360 degree shield which can mitigate and wipe out most damage. The only downfall is there isn't enough energy on-board most ships to handle the load for long periods of time. Warning: All Shield deployment requires stored shield energy to function.

II
Detron Hull Shield

The Detron Hull Shield is an improvement on its predecessor. Although its charge remains the same the shield is given a kick of intelligence by auto deploying in threatening situations. Any sudden burst of energy on the outer shield area causes the immediate deployment of the shield. A true install and forget about it possibly life saving device. Warning: All Shield deployment requires stored shield energy to function.

Pulse Technology

I
Short Range Pulse Cannon

While Ringers toyed with the Bortak Pulse for defense, others wondered if the power of the pulse could not be similarly used to power projectiles for weaponry. The result defined the first generation of the short range pulse cannon, a fixed position cannon capable of short range damage. Early versions of this technology were heavy and required enormous structural supports. As such, they were placed in a forward firing position, requiring the ship be pointed at its intended target. Once fired, each pulse travels forward until energy levels become critical and results in detonation and a lingering explosion. Although short in range, it's practical use could be both for utility, defense, and offense. The resulting explosion lingers for one full second, detonating most any object that comes in contact with it. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

II
Long Range Pulse Cannon

The unfortunate downside to the short range pulse cannon was simply that of its range. In some extreme situations, the short range became a real danger and inspired the creation of the Long Range Pulse Canon. Ringers simply put more power behind the punch resulting in a greater range. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to the Auto Turret Pulse Cannon

III
Auto Turret Pulse Cannon

Using established pulse cannon technology, Ringers added a kick to previous designs by designing computer controlled systems to allow targeting while mobile. Using a gun pod design, the end result allowed Ringers to fire in a 360 degree rotaion without the need to be facing their intended target, granting both added safety, and strategic advantage. This design also comes equipped with greater range due to a Boratium enhanced energy core. The drawback of this enhancement is that the Boratium charge contributes to some unpredictably inaccuracy at times. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

Ion Technology

I
Ionic Energy Blast

Since development of the pulse cannon highlighted the impractical cost of pulse technology, Ringers opted to develop ion weapons capable of transmitting large charges of unstable energy. These pulses were considerably cheaper to produce than existing pulse technology, but much harder to make use of. Based on the science of accelerated ions, this weapon, when properly deployed can be devastating. Contact with most objects rapidly excites their ions, causing a cataclysmic reaction and immediate explosion. The remaining explosion is so heavily charged from the effect, it detonates most anything that comes in contact with it. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to a Ionic Energy Beam

II
Ionic Energy Beam

Ringers raised the bar when developing Ionic Energy Beams. Although more costly to maintain, power necessary to fuel the beam could still be lightly stored using Boratium based cores. The Ionic Energy Beam offers more range and a wider path of destruction, over its predecessor. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to the Ionic Energy Bar

III
Ionic Energy Bar

Testing the limits of Boratium energy storage, Ringers designed the Ionic Energy Bar to increase the distance of a regular energy beam. The end result was a modest improvement over it's predecessors output, but a massive upgrade in control. This new form of the weapon could emit energy from the front of the ship, maintaining the charge as the ship moved. In effect it became a sword like bar, that could be wielded as the ship moved and rotated, increasing destruction potential exponentially. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to the Ionic Energy Turret

IV
Ionic Energy Turret

The final notch in Ionic Energy came the infusion of auto turret technology utilized in pulse weaponry. As Ringers noted, a flexible turret pod provided the mobility and advantage necessary to combat common threats. This edition of the weapon proved to be the cherry on the top. With turret control, ships could move in any direction but still fire upon targets in all directions. Considered the most devestating weapon every used in space combat, the Ionic Energy Turret is the most feared weapon in space. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

Missile Technology

I
Short Range Missiles

Mastering ionic energy technology only gave Ringers more ideas for weaponry. The cheap cost and light weight of Boratium cores gave them the idea to reinvigorate traditional missile technology. Using ionic energy as the propellant, missiles could carry dangerous explosive payloads. The first generation of missiles were short in range but very effective. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to a Ionic Energy Beam

II
Long Range Missiles

Building on existing technology, Ringers simply added more fuel and increased missile payloads in order to yield bigger and better explosives at greater distances. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to the Ionic Energy Bar

III
Ballistic Missiles

As missiles became a go to option for many, a deeper purpose abounded by Ringers whom wanted to build a missile capable of extreme distances with modest to large payloads. The result developed into the first mobile ballistic missile system along the ring. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection. Upgrades to the Ionic Energy Turret

IV
Super Missiles

Obviously Ringer's wouldn't settle for ballistic technology as the peak in missile evolution. No limits could be found for missile projection that the next generation of missile could not provide. To this affect, the Super Missile was born. This missile system required an on board targeting and control system. Which in turn granted the added benefit of being able to fire in any direction, regardless of where the ship was facing. But also added what Ringers call the the "Death Claw" ability. This enabled target locking for their missile arsenal. Super missiles will chase a target until the hits it, or runs out of fuel. This is the every epitome of shoot and forget about it technology. Warning: Bonus objects are also destroyed without bonus collection.

Ammunition Policy

Notice: For all Ringers, due to the potential for ammunition shortage or delay, resupply will only be given on an immediate need basis.

"The United Ringers Union"

Ships

Ship classes vary in size and shape across the solar system, so its important for each Ringer to know each ship and what its capable of.

The "Skink"
The "Skink"

Born out of the earliest days of Boratium mining, the Skink is home to many of even the most veteran miners. Although it's legendary use far surpasses its practical use, the Skink is a jack-of-all-trades ship, and a suitable choice for any would be Ringer. The Skink sets the standard by which all other ship designs are based, and it's nimble and flexible design gives it plenty of upgrade potential. Not the greatest in a fight and certainly not the worst, the Skink can pull its weight and rewards miners handsomely.

The "Orthax"
The "Orthax"

Inspired by combat class transports, the Orthax was pieced together out of desperation and a lack of materials in the early days of the war. It fairs little better in combat or in speed from other older generation ships, but what it lacks in either of those categories it makes up for in wealth and potential improvement. The Orthax boasts cargo capacity greater than any other ship in the ring, and Ringers looking to get rich in bulk are sure to enjoy this craft. Referred to as the "Money Maker", the Orthax can earn a Ringer a serious living in a very short amount of time. Operators should be extra cautious, as her hull is designed to mine, not fight, and her engines are small and slow.

The "Mutex"
The "Mutex"

As the Boratium Wars progressed, the eventual need for vessels solely for war became a dire need. The Mutex was designed entirely for this purpose. A high speed and even higher firepower vessel, it can get into tough spots and out with little trouble. Although weak in armor, its efficient use of pulse weapons gives the Mutex a strictly hit-and-run capacity. Hard to get rich with, a vicious and deadly combat craft, the Mutex is widely used by those who fear death and would do anything to prevent it.

The "Drackle"
The "Drackle"

Innovative among combat vessels, the Drackle was built less so for mining and more so for complete domination. Actively used, this ship is high in Ionic firepower and armor making it a solid offensive and defensive ship. Not the quickest way to earn a living, the Drackle makes up for it shortfalls with speed and armor. Clans boast the Drackle in their fleets as a warning to would be aggressors. A Drackle in your fleet is a sign of power and wealth.

The "Mufuga"
The "Mufuga"

Built by the young but popular miner Vaslev Mufuga, this is a true to purpose mining vessel with heavy armor for only the most skilled Ringers. The Mufuga's size gives it a much larger cargo capacity and therefore greater income generation abilities. Complemented by Pulse weapon technology, the Mufuga is a must have among Ringers. Hard to master but well worth the effort, the Mufuga is quickly becoming a standard among professional mining clans.

The "Kunis"
The "Kunis"

Stolen from the earth bound Kunis Corporation, the Kunis was originally built to make short work of the crude vessels developed by Ringers. Famed for its ability to take a beating, the Kunis maintains a thick outer hull and the latest in Missile technology. The Kunis was the first missile ship deployed in the Ring, catching most victims completely by surprise. Energy weapons were expected and missiles were seemingly out dated in history, until the Kunis. Boratium enhanced propellant enabled massive missile ranges and even more devastating explosives. The Kunis was soon given a extremely wide birth, whenever encountered.

The "Cobalt"
The "Cobalt"

The brain child of "Todd Cobalt", a famed young Ringer, this vessel is a textbook example of high speed assault. With modest mining capabilities similar to the Skink, this vessel spells destruction for any attacker. High in armor, and baring the latest in Missile technology, the Cobalt is one of the most expensive ships to acquire among Ringers.

The "Stutok P8"
The "Stutok P8"

While championed for its unique benefits to different element compounds and mixes, Boratium has also yielded unimaginable results among spacecraft design. The "Stutok P8" is one such case. During the ships testing phase, it's propulsion systems demonstrated that the ship could on command jump short distances through space. There is still no solid explanation to jump technology, but a relationship has been drawn between a specific Boratium makeup used in the ships design and harvested from only one very secret asteroid along the Belt. Legend has it that the Stutok takes advantage of alien based technology, but that's only a legend......

The "Bilalicus"
The "Bilalicus"

Another example of vastly unimaginable results came from the Bilalicus. An extremely sleak and small ship, the Bilalicus was intended for Ringers harvesting small quantities of very dense Boratium within extremely unstable environments, Designed to take advantage of jump technology to avoid dangerous situations, its hull was infused with Boratium from what was thought to be the asteroid used for the Stutok. The resulting effect took jump technology to a different level. Power only seemed to phase the ship out of physical existence thereby granting it protection and time. The results proved to be consistent and repeatable in production, and eventually cemented the Bilalicus platform as a very fast income earning vessel, rivaling even the Orthax in its earning potential.

Threats

The Solar System contains many threats that Ringers must constantly be aware of.

Space mines
Space Mines

Indiscriminate killers of spacecraft, Boratium infused mines are an exemplary bunch. The unfortunate result of endless war, these lone wolves are produced by Explora-Incorpus and Ringers alike. Places widely throughout the ring, they communicate with other mines and can bring a way of death and destruction in seconds.

Space mines
Urilium
Urilium Rock

Unlike traditional asteroids, these red rocks are unstable, and dense, leading Ringers refer to these deathtraps as Urilium rocks for the simple reason that "you really can't get that close".

Enemy Space Craft
Unknown Spacecraft

Whether these craft are Pirate, Explora-Incorpus, or Alien, the results are just the same. They engage without warning, posing a threat to all. Make quick work of them or get out of their path. Some of these vessels can rob you of your payload, by simply being in your line of site.

Enemy Space Craft
Void Rock
Void Meteors

Like Urilium, Ringers regard Void meteors as anything but a harvestable compound. This dense mixture of elements is impossible to destroy let alone harvest, and it's deterrence to even light makes it incredibly difficult to see and avoid. Unaffected by any known weapon and resistant to gravitational effects, Void meteors are to be avoided at all costs.
